It Just Makes So Much Sense
“I have been working with backflow preventers since I returned to work at our company in 2001. Other than the technical and mechanical skills required to perform my duties, I have discovered that there was a great deal of clerical work involved as well. Being a certified backflow prevention specialist is more than just knowing how to test an assembly. It’s also about knowing whose hands to place your report. It’s about communication.
One of the first projects I tackled upon taking over our backflow division was creating a database of names, numbers and instructions when dealing with the multiple municipalities with whom we worked. Every city was a little different. One city may require a permit pulled. Another would take the report in the mail. Some cities had the building department handle backflow preventers. Another used the utility department. Some cities just ignored backflow preventers, or even went so far as to be resistant to adopting any program. Broward County alone has over 25 cities, and we work in Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties as well. Needless to say, it was a very mixed bag.
When I first heard about BSI, I was naturally curious. Computers can be a bit intimidating, but BSI Online was anything but intimidating. It was easy. Here was a system that collected all the pertinent data for every backflow preventer at our customer’s sites. Any discrepancies, easily corrected. Entering test reports was fast and simple. You even keep track of tester certifications and test kit calibrations. Every city that has adopted BSI may still have their idiosyncrasies, but it’s nothing like it was before. BSI eliminated all the massive irregularities and confusion with filing a backflow preventer report and simplified it, saving us and our customers’ time and money.
Now I promote your company all the time. Any city still wanting us to pull permits for testing or mailing checks to file a report, I tell them there’s a better way. To date, your presence is growing in south Florida, and I welcome it. I even look forward to the day when your service can be used as an app on my smartphone. It just makes so much sense. Thank you.”

We decided to enlist BSI as our provider for backflow compliance 2 plus years ago because we did not want to increase our staffing level, send out letters, and track backflows.
